Martial Arts

My martial arts journey began when I was 9 when my parents signed me up for Aikido lessons in Malaysia. Throughout my teenage years, I trained sporadically until around the age of 14 when I took a deeper interest in Aikido training.

I became an Aikido instructor at the age of 16, one of two of the youngest instructors ranked at the time at my dojo.

In my adult years, I tried other martial arts - Muaythai, Boxing, Judo, BJJ.. As I grew up, I looked for different aspects and growth in myself through martial arts. Combat sports and in particular, Muaythai started to have all my attention and focus. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the yielding, flow and the softness of Aikido. But I was also looking for strength, immovability and toughness - these I found through my Muaythai training.

Muaythai Fighter

I started Muaythai training with no intentions of ever stepping into a ring to compete. But as the journey progressed, I wanted more of myself. I wanted to test my skills. More importantly, I wanted to challenge my fears and self doubts.

My fighting journey has been a wonderful, difficult but very rewarding one. I honestly can say that I like the Spring today (through my Muaythai growth) way more than who I was before Muaythai.

As of today, I have fought over 20 times professionally, competed nationally across Australia and overseas, and have attained WBC world rankings. I have been very lucky to have trained with great coaches, experienced many great fight memories and have met amazing people along the way.

Muaythai Coach

My coaching journey has grown in sync with my martial arts journey. Though coaching was a “hobby” and a “weekend thing” when I was a teenager, it has grown to have a life of its own. Heart Muaythai, my coaching brand was founded in 2021. Before this, I was coaching in several different gyms but I never had my own coaching identity.

With Heart Muaythai, I have a deepened sense of focus and direction in my coaching journey. I am able to better communicate my lessons and provide students insights into my coaching style. Over the last 3 years, we’ve seen Heart Muaythai grow to an online community of over 60,000 people. In person, I am able to connect with students here at my home gym of Sukhari Muaythai through personal training, group classes and corporate workshops.
